Extra Credit

The Panel
These were teachers/administration that were chosen to answer our questions.

This was set up promoting TSTA. (Sorry it is blurry)

Questions & Answers

Question 1. What is one thing that new teachers need for their classroom?

Answers: The school already has materials, come in with fresh ideas to share with older teachers, try not to fall into the norm, have energy, passion, a good Dr!, one lady said that ages 11-30 are millennium generation meaning that we are technological, she said to come in "connected" and be able to understand it

Reflection: I am so glad that someone asked this questions because I can see myself getting so excited and going out and buying all this stuff that the school has provided for me. I agree that new teachers need to come in with all new fresh and fun ideas so that we aren't boring the students with the same old stuff. I absolutely agree that we need to come in "connected" and after taking this class I will definitely know ways in which to be "connected."

Question 2. What are the best ways to get parental support?

Answers: To keep in contact with them one way or another, document everything!, make contact early because it will let them know that you are concerned for their child, contact them before they contact you and always say something positive, put your contact info on a sheet of magnets to send home to the parents, create a personal website that includes a schedule and when tests will be and projects are do etc., class blog.

Reflection: I love the idea of putting contact information on magnets, it sounds really simple and I think that parents will like it too. I also love the idea of the class website because if a test or project is coming up then the parents know that their child should be studying or working on something. It also keeps parents informed   without having to send home a lot of paper that some parents don't even have time to go through and read.

Question 3. What do administrators look for during a job interview?

Answers: Be prepared for a group interview, be yourself, have enthusiasm, well dressed, volunteer during your student teaching, once you get the job show initiative, have classroom management, use your team

Reflection: During a job interview you want to give a good impression so attitude and appearance are to me the two main things to prepare for. During the entire lecture classroom management and time management were talked about a lot! They were things I think of but I didn't realize they were main things that I needed to be preparing myself for.

I learned a lot by attending this conference!

Autobiography Video Project #1

I had alot of fun working on this project! I wish I would have had more time to start it a little sooner but other than that I really enjoyed it.I used the video on Blackboard and that helped me out alot! It made it so much easier for me to figure out how to do everything. I could use this project in my classroom for all sorts of things. Such as when I have the students report over something or getting them to do a video about their lives to introduce the process of movie maker to them. I wouldn't change anything about it. I loved adding all of the pictures and adding the music. The music was probably my favorite part and will be a good way for me to really understand what my students are interested in.

Autobiography Script

My name is Julia Michelle Hafner and I was born in Brownwood, Texas. I have lived in Coleman County my whole life and attended Panther Creek Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Last semester I decided on my major and it is Early Childhood through sixth grade Generalist. I am very excited to finish college and actually get started with my teaching career. Three words that describe me are dependable, optimistic, and dedicated. I am dependable because if I am ever asked to do anything by anyone I do it and to my best ability. I try to be optimistic about everything, although, I do have my days where it seems like nothing can go right. I think that being optimistic is a good way to be because if you are pessimistic then you will never be satisfied with anything. I am dedicated because I will do whatever it takes to make sure that I am the best teacher that I can be. My dad’s name is Jimmy Allen Hafner and my mom’s name is Jimmie Gail (Rutherford) Hafner. Yes, you heard me right, they have the same name! My mom goes by her first and middle name though.  My dad passed away suddenly in the year 2000 leaving my mom with me and three of my siblings still at home. Watching her and being with her through all of the things that life has dealt us, she has definitely made a huge influence in my life. She also motivates me to do well in life. If she can endure so much with such little notice then I know that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I am also motivated to do well for the rest of my family because I want to make them proud. My career aspirations are to not only be a good teacher but to be a teacher that has made a lasting impression.

Reflection #2

In this class I want to learn how to be more familiar with programs on computers so that I can implement them into my future classroom. Technology is something that has been around a long time but increases so fast that it is hard to keep up. For instance, some of the games my little nephews just got for Christmas I had no idea what were or how to use them. I guess I'm still stuck in Nintendo and Nintendo 64 days. Even looking at the Wii and Xbox 360 I am just amazed at how fast all of this stuff is coming out! I can't even imagine what my grandmother is thinking!

I have never been good at online classes partly because I am not confident in that I am doing everything right. I like having the teacher there so that I can make sure I know for sure what is going on. I think that if I had more experience through out my school years that this might would have come easier to me. Technology is only going to keep increasing and my goal is to be able to incorporate it into my lessons and not only teach using it but also teach my students how to use it. Starting at a young age I think that it is really important that we start using more technology in the classrooms to help students prepare for their futures.

The Game Plan has four steps that would help guide anyone in any situation at which they were trying to improve and reach certain goals. Being a teacher I think that it will definitely help me in trying to create lessons and monitor my students progress.

Reflection #1

Hi! My name is Julia Hafner and I am from Voss, Texas which is outside of Coleman. I went to school at Panther Creek from K-12. It is a little six man school out in the middle of nowhere and I'm not exaggerating. There were 18 kids in my graduating class and that was a big class!

I graduated in 2009 and went to Tarleton State for a year and lived with my sister then moved to San Angelo. The reason for moving here and attending ASU is because my sister who had formerly lived here had decided to move back so I came with her. I am very happy here and love this school.

Last semester I decided on my major and it is Elementary Education. I want to be a teacher because I love little kids and want to be a positive influence in their lives. I think that learning can be extremely fun depending on how it is taught and that is probably one of my main goals.

I have never been a very technological person and in this century it is kind of getting to where you have to know about technology and how to use it. Since I am going to be a teacher I think it is going to help me in most of my classroom situations and help me to help them!
